With a review from Star Tribune that praised it's amazing hot chocolate we had to try this place. I mean who doesn't like a good cup of hot chocolate? We ventured out in search of this hot treat even though the weather was unseasonably warm for the beginning of April.
Located next to Izzy's Ice Cream Shop, who is famous for their ice cream (this will most likely be on a later blog), we walked into a plain, non-corporate-like coffee shop. The interior was no-frills decorated with rustic wood and what looks like local art on the walls. We stepped up to the counter where the quiet, not-so-social barista took our orders. Even though we had mentioned that we heard they had famous hot chocolate, he didn't as so much even back that up and flatly stated they were out of one kind but that we could choose from milk or dark. E and I both chose milk and sat down as he made our drinks. In the time it took us to find a place to sit our drinks were ready.
With the backing of the Star Tribune we expected to be amazed, shocked, or even brought back to a childhood memory but we were disappointed with all of the above. It wasn't bad but it was nothing spectacular. The appearance looked appetizing with a dollop of whipped cream on top but the temperature was luke-warm and the texture was a bit too frothy for our liking. Maybe from the numerous hot chocolates that E and I have both consumed in our lifetimes, we both expected something a little sweeter and smoother. Even with our disappointment in search of "the best hot chocolate in the Twin Cities" we both gulped them down but decided that we are still looking for our "best hot chocolate in the Twin Cities". We give Kopplin's a C for the hot chocolate.
